The national athletics body is set to select six senior athletes – three from both male and female categories – that will represent Zimbabwe at the prestigious Africa Cross Country Championships to be held in Cameroon on March 12 this year.
On Sunday, there will be the men’s 12km and junior male 8km races, with senior women competing over the same distance while junior females are set for a 6km race.
The country’s 10 provinces have already selected their teams ahead of the championships, where seasoned athletes like Olivia Chitate, Constance Nyasango and Munyaradzi Jari are expected to compete for the top prize.
In an interview with NewsDay Sport yesterday, Naaz president, Tendai Tagara said they were expecting tough competition at the event, before adding that they will not be sending junior athletes to the Africa Cross Country Championships in Cameroon due to financial constraints.
